CUT-A-THON
RAISES $10,000 FOR K-STATE CANCER RESEARCH AND EDUCATION
MANHATTAN
-- Kansas State University's Terry C. Johnson Center for Basic Cancer
Research has received a $10,000 donation from a cut-a-thon sponsored
by Hair Experts Salon & Spa in Manhattan.
The
money was raised at the salon's 15th annual cut-a-thon Sept. 22.
Salon
owner Deb McCullough credited her staff for the success of the event.
"They
all donated their day's pay and they even donated all their tips
in order to reach the $10,000 goal to establish an endowed fund,"
McCullough said.
The
salon holds a cut-a-thon each year to benefit a local charity. McCullough
said she selected the K-State cancer center to be this year's beneficiary
because everyone is affected by cancer. The salon donated 100 percent
of the day's income to the center. A silent auction featuring items
donated by local businesses raised additional funds.
"We
are confident our donation will be put to good use by the cancer
center to support K-State faculty and students involved in cancer
research and education," she said.
The
mission of the Terry C. Johnson Center for Basic Cancer Research
is to further the understanding of cancers by funding basic cancer
research and supporting higher education, training and public outreach.
More information on the center is available online at http://www.k-state.edu/cancer.center
